Southern Plantation-style architecture
Size: 18,000 sq ft, Living occupancy of 65-75 members
Full-size basement with a multi-purpose study room, which will be used for pledge class study hall, varsity review and freshman follies song practices, Homecoming preparation and social get-togethers
Full-service kitchen
State-of-the-art wiring and internet connectivity
Appearance
The outside of the Chapter House will maintain the Southern Plantation-style look. The lone one exception will be the use of one entryway, located in the middle of the house. The original house had one main door, which was centered. It was later changed when the facility was expanded and an additional door constructed. The single door entryway will be more functional and impressive in visual appeal.
Living Arrangement
Members will reside in larger rooms with a combination of a study-suite living arrangement, larger two person and three person rooms. Officer's rooms will be larger and the variety of rooms should attract more Junior and Senior occupancy. Rooms will be wired for internet connectivity, giving members access to resources on the web and through the University library system. These suites, larger rooms and other improvements should keep the chapter competitive for decades to come.
Basement
The basement has been designed as a multi-purpose area, flexible for wide variety functionality. The area will be used for pledge class study hall, allowing for proper proctoring by elder members; for varsity revue and freshmen follie song practice, enabling SAE to become an attractive partner for high profile University song and dance acts; for social activities, given its large capacity for occupants; for normal brotherhood activities due, in large part, to the relaxed atmosphere that the room provides; and the adjacent laundry room will keep brothers from washing their clothes in laundry facilities around town. The basement will protect the upstairs, particularly the dining and living rooms, from use and abuse, thereby preserving its quality.
Temporary Housing
The Active Chapter has strongly recommended that the Fraternity move into the dorms during the year of construction. This follows the guidelines of risk management and the control of alcohol in the inner-fraternities rules and regulations as the House is still determined to be University housing. This will also give the members a closer bond and unity of organization for the temporary period.
