Oklahoma Mu celebrated their 75th Anniversary at the Founders Day Celebration on Saturday February 11, 2006. We started the morning off early at 9:30am with initiation services at Bennett Chapel. Included was a special initiation of Glen Nichols ’57. Glen was never initiated with his pledge brothers but maintained a close relationship through the years. Glenn has been active as an Alumnus, and even contributed to the Phoenix campaign. There weren’t very many dry eyes as Glen was finally initiated.

Social hour began at noon at the OSU Alumni Center and the program began at 1pm with lunch being served. We started the program with The Oklahoma Mu Quartet singing SAE Grace. Our emcee for the event, Brother Steve Baker ’65, did an excellent job of hosting the schedule. Michael Schultz, Eminent Archon gave a brief update on the Active Chapter and their accomplishments over the last semester. Brother Mike Ruby honored those guests initiated in 1981, 1956, 1946 & 1936 with a 25, 50, 60 & 70 years member certificate. He also honored those alumni who received Board Awards, this is an award given to specific alums as a way of honoring them for their accomplishments put forth throughout the chapter.

Brothers Sherman Smith ’42, Boone Pickens ’49 and Bob Austin ’73 were all inducted into the OKMU Hall of Fame for their outstanding contributions of time and resources for the advancement of our order. Brother Sherman Smith ’42 was presented by Brother Jack Vassar ’47 and although Brother Smith was not in attendance, he was missed by all who had attended.

Brother Boone Pickens ’49 was also our keynote speaker. All who attended enjoyed his stories he shared about his college days and his life experiences.

As for celebrating 75 years of Oklahoma Mu, a history slide show was presented and narrated by Brother Bill Farr ’66 the Chapter’s Historian. The presentation showed how Oklahoma Mu originated, and how it has continued to flourish throughout the years.

A champagne toast and the Oklahoma Mu Quartet closed the ceremony by singing Friends.

With over 250 guests in attendance, the celebration was a huge success. We would like to thank everyone who attended this event. Including the honored guests: Boone & Madeleine Pickens, Ron Theisen (SAE National), Kent Sampson (OSU), Ival Gregory (OSU), Mike Holder (OSU), and Jay Rosser.

Please be sure to mark your calendars for next February, as Oklahoma Mu will celebrate its 76th Anniversary.
